FCA Follows GM, Drops 100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty

Taking inspiration from General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has decided to drop its 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

The company is switching from a five-year/100,000-mile program to a five-year/60,000 mile warranty, effective for 2016-model-year Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram vehicles.

"Following changes already made by competitors, FCA US is adjusting powertrain warranty coverage for 2016 model year vehicles to be more consistent with industry practices," the company said in a statement.

The affected brands will keep their three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, while Fiat vehicles remain unchanged with coverage for four-years or 50,000 miles.

General Motors earlier this year killed its own 100,000-mile, five-year warranty for the Chevrolet and GMC brands, reducing coverage to 60,000 miles for the 2016 model year. The company claimed that warranty and maintenance coverage ranked low among customer priorities.
