Nominees For NAFA National Office: Please Participate Before October 27
If you always wanted to help shape the future of the fleet industry and be on the NAFA Board of Trustees, now is your chance to throw your proverbial hat in the proverbial ring.
Each year around this time, NAFA seeks candidates for each seat on the Board of Trustees. There are some seats for which service on the Board is a prerequisite, but there are other seats that are open to all candidates. Here is a brief summary of duties and required qualifications for each position, paraphrased from NAFA’s official "Policy for Nomination and Election of National Officers and Elected Trustees" and NAFA’s bylaws.
1. President:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Must have served on the NAFA Board of Trustees as a NAFA Vice President, preferably Senior Vice President, at least one full year out of the last three consecutive years.
c. Has full authority of the Corporation, subject to the Articles of Incorporation and Code of Regulations;
d. Presides at all national meetings of Members and at all meetings of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors;
e. Appoints and is a member ex officio of all committees and has the power to convene all committees;
f. In reasonable discretion, takes such action as may be desirable and proper from time to time in order to carry out the aims and objectives of the Corporation.
2. Senior Vice President:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Must have served on the NAFA Board of Trustees as a NAFA Vice President at least one full year out of the last three consecutive years.
c. In the absence, disability, resignation or removal of the President, the Senior Vice President assumes all the powers and duties of the President.
d. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
e. Has priority as a nominee for President over all other members.
3. Vice President (2 seats):
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Must have served on the NAFA Board of Trustees at least two of the immediately prior four years.
c. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
4. Vice President for Canada & Northern Region Trustee:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Must be a Canadian resident.
c. Responsible for encouraging the development and furthering the aims and purposes of the Corporation in Canada.
d. Responsible for the supervision of the Canadian Chapters.
e. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
5. International Vice President:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Should be responsible for a fleet of vehicles in areas outside of the United States and Canada and have a network of contacts in those areas.
c. Should have the ability to incorporate NAFA business with normal business travel to help expand NAFA’s reach beyond the U.S. and Canada.
d. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
6. Treasurer:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Responsible for ensuring safekeeping of all money and choses in action belonging to the Corporation and for their proper use and disbursement.
c. Present annually a financial budget for the ensuing year.
d. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
7. Secretary:
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Ensures an accurate record of all acts and proceedings of the Corporation are maintained.
c. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
8. Trustee (3 seats):
a. Must be a NAFA Full Member or Associate Member (not Affiliate or Regional Affiliate).
b. Must have served for at least two years out of the immediately prior four years as a member of the Board of Governors.
c. Each of the three elected trustees are responsible for the supervision of assigned chapters and should visit the assigned chapters at least once every three years.
d. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
9. Affiliate Trustee:
a. Must be a NAFA Affiliate or Regional Affiliate (not Full Member or Associate Member).
b. Serves as the representative voice for all NAFA Affiliates and Regional Affiliates.
c. Serves as Reporting Officer for the national Affiliates Committee
d. Responsible for activities assigned to said office from time to time by the Board of Trustees.

NAFA’s Nominating Committee will review all Candidate Consideration Forms in November. The full slate of nominees will be announced in December, following which additional eligible nominees may be proposed by petition. Those elected will take office next during NAFA’s Annual Business Meeting in Austin, Texas, April 19, 2016.
