2014-2015 Honda Accord Hybrids Recalled For Faulty Electric Vehicle Mode

Honda recently announced a huge recall of 6,800 2014-2015 model Honda Accord Hybrids. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a number of owners have claimed an electrical fault in their vehicle that causes the gasoline engine to turn off all by itself, leaving the vehicle to function on electrical power alone.

The automaker has claimed that its Accord Hybrid might have a defect in the cell voltage sensor, or CVS. Honda stated that it is because of the CVS not being able to interpret the correct electrical noise. Honda further added that the CVS might be mistakenly interpreting electrical noise from motor circuits and the hybrid battery inverter due to which the gasoline engine fitted in the 2014-2015 Honda Accord Hybrid models shut off or in other words switch the vehicle onto safe electric vehicle mode.

Around 58 warranty claims have already been made by a number of owners, but Honda is lucky to have no accidents or deaths reported as yet. However, owners stated that they were unfortunately left driving their vehicles up to a maximum of 40mph and a range limit of around two miles due to the failed safe electric vehicle mode. In case readers didn’t know, Accord Hybrids have been built with an electrical range of only two miles after which the vehicle is designed to switch back onto gasoline mode.

Owners of 2014-2015 Honda Accord Hybrids should keep in mind that if they are a victim to any such issue, their vehicles will show audible warnings like speed limitations and loss of gas power. But, that doesn’t mean they don’t have to get their vehicles checked at their dealers if they are not being notified with any such warnings.

Honda stated that it aims to send out instant recall notices to those people who own a Honda Accord Hybrid model that has been manufactured between August 29, 2013 and May 30, 2015. The automaker is expecting 6,786 vehicles to return from within the U.S., and added that owners will receive a notice well before November 6, 2015. Owners can go to their Honda dealers in order to get their vehicles hybrid system software repaired at no costs.

If owners of the above mentioned vehicles have any queries related to the issue, they can immediately contact Honda Customer Service at 888-234-2138 or call NHTSA at 888-327-4236. The recall has a designated serial number of JT7, whereas the safety campaign has been allotted serial number #15V602000.
