In Memoriam: NAFA Past President Salvatore "Sal" Giacchi, CFM/CAFM®

The Association was saddened to learn that NAFA Past President Salvatore "Sal" Giacchi, CFM/CAFM®, died after a long illness at his home on Sunday, November 1, 2015. He was 65 years old.

"I am sad to pass along information on the passing of Sal," said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "He was President from 1999-2001. He was an energetic, enthusiastic, and driven leader, and NAFA extends our collective condolences to his family and friends."

Sal was one of the first graduates of the Certified Fleet Manager (CFM) program, the precursor to NAFA's CAFM® certification program.

Sal spent most of his career as Fleet Manager for Lorillard in New York City. Later, he was an insurance agent for American Income Life. Salvatore was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception RC Church, Franklin, N.J. and a long standing and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council #588 since 1988 where he served as grand knight, past grand knight, and district deputy. "Chef Sal" loved to cook and spent countless hours serving as a volunteer preparing meals for many organizations including Immaculate Conception Church and School, Catholic Charities, Covenant House, diocesan Seminarians, and the Nothing is Impossible Foundation. He loved the beach and spending time with his family and friends.

According to the family's wishes, all memorial gifts (in lieu of flowers) should be donated to Immaculate Conception Regional School, 65 Church Street, Franklin, NJ, 07416; or Knights of Columbus Marquette Council #588, P.O. Box 588, Sparta, NJ, 07871.
