Volkswagen e-Golf Recalled For Battery Software Issue

Volkswagen is now recalling it's 2015-16 e-Golf hatchback because of issues with the battery software. This issue affects 5,561 cars produced from May 21, 2015 through March 1, 2016.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "oversensitive diagnostics for the high-voltage battery management system may falsely detect an electrical surge resulting in the vehicle's electric drive motor shutting down unexpectedly." This means that the car can possibly detect a power surge and shut itself off completely, increasing the risk of a traffic accident.

VW have informed affected owners that they can bring their cars into their local dealership, who will update the battery management software for free. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of this issue.
