NAFA Receives Clean Air Champion Award From East Bay And Sacramento Clean Cities Coalitions

NAFA was honored as East Bay and Sacramento Clean Cities Coalitions’ "Clean Air Champion" for 2016 during the Northern California Clean Technology Forum & Equipment Expo on Wednesday, October 19.

The Clean Cities organization cited NAFA for "superlative efforts defending clear air vehicles and the transportation industry from potentially harmful legislation, and for the creation of the Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program."

The award was accepted by NAFA Past President Claude A. Masters, CAFM®, who presented NAFA’s Sustainable Fleet Training Day during the event. After the day’s presentations Masters said, "The Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program, the education and training NAFA provides to assist fleets in becoming sustainable, and NAFA’s ongoing communication with lawmakers all reinforce our association’s commitment."

"NAFA is honored to receive this award," said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "For nearly sixty years NAFA has been a champion for safety, for fostering excellence, and for sustainability with fleets all across North America. Recognition of our efforts reinforces how important sustainable practices are to the fleet profession."

NAFA’s Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program includes tools and metrics to concretely measure (and score) fleet progress in emissions reduction, fuel consumption, and increases in fuel efficiency. Sustainability-accredited fleets successfully demonstrate that a credible sustainability plan is in place, and real, meaningful progress is being made toward reducing their total emissions and the negative environmental impact made by extraneous carbon fuel usage.

Introduced in September 2016, NAFA’s new Sustainable Fleet Webinar Series consists of six one-hour presentations designed to educate fleet professionals on how to create a sustainable fleet program. The series was developed through a partnership with NAFA, CALSTART, and NC State University. This course is designed to educate fleet professionals in proven methods to develop sustainable fleet initiatives, providing the tools and skills that help them succeed in their sustainability goals.
