Potential Stuck Gas Pedal Forces Recall Of 25,000 Isuzu, Chevrolet Trucks

Isuzu is recalling 25,018 commercial trucks in the U.S. — including Chevrolet branded vehicles — because the accelerator pedal may get stuck under a steel stopper bolt.

The truck recall affects 2014-2016 Isuzu NPR and NPR HD vehicles. It also includes 2016 Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 3500 HD, 4500HD, and 4500XD medium duty trucks.

Isuzu issued the recall because if the accelerator pedal becomes stuck, it will remain in full throttle position, creating unintended acceleration.

"A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

No injuries or crashes have been reported.

Since the trucks are equipped with a brake override system the driver can try pushing on the brake pedal to help slow down and stop the vehicle, NHTSA said in a statement.

The Japanese vehicle manufacturer is working with General Motors to produce low cab forward trucks that are based on the Isuzu N-Series. The vehicles are being distributed through Chevrolet dealers.

The recall was expected to begin on November 14.
