FLAGFA Conference Features Hot Topics and a Super Bowl Champion; Admission Discount Ends Today

Each year, the Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA), NAFA's Sunshine State Chapter, and Florida Utility Fleet Managers Association (FUFMA) come together for three days of education and networking at TradeWinds Island Grand in St. Pete Beach, Fla.

FLAGFA Treasurer Gary McLean, Fleet Manager for the City of Lakeland, said of the special relationship his association has with NAFA: "(We've) always kind of been arm-in-arm...and having NAFA as part of this conference is a really positive thing. The Sunshine State Chapter will offer a CAFM® Fleet Discipline Boot Camp and Exam sitting for the Professional Development module at the conference, and a passing grade will count towards the CAFM® or CAFS® requirement." Attendees who pass the exam will receive a Professional Development certificate.

Other highlights include a utility fleets breakout session developed in conjunction with FUFMA, a hospitality event, and a keynote event with Mike Alstott, Superbowl XXXVII Champion for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There will also be presentations highlighting Miami Dade’s innovative plans to create heavy equipment technicians, fringe benefits associated with take-home car programs, a presentation devoted to tire management programs, the fine points of ethical purchasing, and much more.

"We bring in speakers from across the country," McLean said. "We try to touch upon all the fleet hot topics that are trending and timely. For the price of admission, $50 for early registration, it's a great bang for the buck, and you can't beat the agenda."

Early registration cost is $50. and early registration expires TODAY, September 5. After September 5, registration cost increases to $100.

McLean added, "For regional government fleet people like me, we have a little bit of everything in our fleet. Electric vehicles, solid waste vehicles, bucket trucks...I don't have the expertise with the electric fleet the way utility fleet managers might, so a conference like this is a way we can share our experience."

The combined association conference is open to out-of-state attendees as well, "as long as attendees have an affiliation with government or utility fleets."
