NAFA's Great Lakes Chapter had an opportunity to do some chapter business and experience the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in late January. However, this meeting would be bittersweet for attendees.
The Annual Meeting portion of the meeting took place at the Detroit Hard Rock Cafe, and would be one of the last gatherings there. The rock-and-roll themed bar/restaurant is leaving the location after 15 years.
On January 24, Chapter Chair Bob Mossing provided a general update of the chapter's efforts, as well as a recommendation for and vote on 2019 officers. Mark Millbury provided the chapter's financial review and Monica Diehl offered a membership update.
Still, it was difficult to ignore the history surrounding attendees as these were progressing.
After the meeting, chapter attendees moved over to the 2019 North American International Auto Show at Detroit's Cobo Center.
The story may not yet be over for the Hard Rock organization in Detroit. According to reports, the Orlando-based chain said that "the brand remains committed to the city and is open to having another location within the market, if the right space can be identified."
