Don't mess with a good thing is a smart bit of wisdom, and the Ontario Chapter made sure to follow it. The chapter held their annual general meeting on March 19. The business of the day found the chapter holding their affirmation vote for the current chapter executives. The current executives retain their positions by unanimous vote.

NAFA Quebec Chapter Members and Affiliates awoke early March 19, facing a daunting proposition – the Montreal region had been hit by a freak and final snow storm, and the roads were blanketed white on this, the last day of winter. But the promise of a thought-provoking chapter meeting motivated the members to tackle the snowy routes across the metropolis.

According to a new report by the National Academy of Sciences’ National Research Council, the United States can reduce its oil use and greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050, if the federal government is willing to continue using a combination of industry and consumer incentives — and new fees, implementing new taxes on gasoline to encourage a move to alternative fuels and technologies.

General Motors is facing the recall of over 33,000 vehicles due to an issue with its Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX Crossover models. GM was also forced to recall 48 compressed natural gas-powered versions of its 2011-model Chevrolet Express. GM has said all the vans were sold to three U.S. fleet customers and one dealer, each vehicle has been identified and inspected, and there have been no reported crashes, injuries, or fires related to the issue.

Several businesses have pledged a total of $8 million to help cash-strapped Detroit, MI pay for a new fleet of emergency vehicles, including 23 EMS units and 100 police cars, to boost public safety and reduce response times, Mayor Dave Bing announced March 26.

City officials of Norman, OK have hired a consultant to help them study the most cost-effective way to manage and maintain the city's fleet of more than 850 vehicles. Many of the vehicles are old and in need of replacement. Couple that with rising fuel costs, and you have a budgetary nightmare, according to Norman Public Works Director Shawn O'Leary. More vehicles are added to the fleet every year, but no new mechanics have been added in 10 years.

During the 2013 I&E, CALSTART will host a specific education and training track featuring several value-added sessions for fleets. These will be looking at getting the latest information about advanced fuels and vehicles, and how to make them work for their operations. All sessions were developed by CALSTART and will feature their speakers and experts.
