The Chapter Assistance Program includes measurable key performance indicators (KPI); requires direct interaction between NAFA’s Regional Trustees, staff, and chapter leaders; infuses a proactive process to assist 'in need' chapters; and rewards chapters for doing well."

Chapter Chair Diane Lopez promoted the 2014 I&E Chapter Challenge, with $1,000 to the winning chapter on the line. Erica Wallace Fine, Chapter Nominating Chair, conducted chapter officer elections. Joe McDonald, Affiliates Chair, introduced manufacturer’s representatives who, in turn, gave attendees a brief preview of what they would see on the show floor.

NAFA's New England Chapter got down to BASICs at their February 19 meeting, and to be in accordance with Department of Transportation rules, you would do well to do likewise. Keith Barrows, Staples Inc. Director - Global Health & Safety, provided an interesting overview of the DOT CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) for the meeting. The session was held at Staples' corporate office in Framingham, MA.

Russo, CAE is transitioning from his position of NAFA Executive Director to the role of the Association's Chief Executive Officer. Under mounting pressure, General Motors has significantly expanded a recall involving defective ignition switches — now linked to 31 crashes and at least 13 fatalities – affecting a total of nearly 1.4 million vehicles. The automaker also issued an apology for the problem. GM first announced plans to recall nearly 800,000 older compact models mid-February. At the time, company officials said it knew of 22 separate accidents and six fatalities connected to the problem.

Mortgage services provider PHH Corporation is in talks with leasing finance firm Element Financial Corporation regarding the sale of its PHH Arval fleet management business. On February 11, PHH said it was exploring options of selling the company as a whole or in parts by separating its fleet management and mortgage services divisions.

Following a recent announcement by Ford to switch to aluminum for its 2015 F-150, and in prepare for tightening federal fuel economy standards, General Motors says it will have aluminum-bodied pickup trucks by 2018. GM has made agreements with Alcoa Inc. and Novelis Inc. for supply to meet the automaker’s pending demand.

Ohio lawmakers are seeking to provide tax credits and sales tax breaks for buying or converting vehicles for alternative fuels such as natural gas. The House Finance and Appropriations Committee held the first hearing of the year for House Bill 336. If passed, the bill could be a boon for alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas, which are increasingly used in commercial-vehicle fleets but whose conversion remains expensive for commuters.

PHH Corporation announced on February 19 that Jim Halliday has been named President of PHH Arval. Halliday has served as Interim President of PHH Arval since December 2013. Halliday joined PHH Arval in 2003 and has held a variety of senior leadership roles including Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer for PHH Arval`s North American operations.

PepsiCo Fleet Director Pete Silva retired on February 17. Silva has been in fleet for 32 years, fourteen of which have been with the company and pre-merger predecessor Frito Lay. Silva's legacy with the soft drink company will be his innovations regarding purchasing contracts and processes in regard to the company's operating units and its bottlers.
