Factory Motor Parts in Phoenix, AZ was the host for the Arizona Chapter's most recent meeting on Thursday, June 19. The topic was one of the most central to the life and livelihood to any driver, let alone a fleet driver: the brakes. This session's primary presentations were given by David Robinson and Jordan Henry from AC Delco, as well as Gary Baker from Bendix.

Rosen Shingle Creek was the site of the July 9 NAFA Sunshine State Chapter and Central Florida Clean Cities joint meeting. Among the NAFA attendees at the meeting were members David Vasquez from SECO and Gary McLean from the City of Lakeland. Also in attendance was UCF mechanical engineering student Rubin York, an intern working with the Orlando Utilities Commission.

A group of over 150 fleet professionals gathered at Western Lakes Golf Club on July 8 for the Wisconsin Chapter's 23rd Annual Golf and Leisure Outing. The theme for this year’s event was Christmas in July. After receiving an over-stuffed gift bag at the registration table, attendees were treated to a holiday themed continental breakfast. Soon everyone was heading out to the links for a round of golf on a beautiful fall-like day.

New cars and light-duty trucks sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 16.7 million in May. That was considerably above the consensus forecast that looked for something in the low sixteen million range. Clearly, analysts failed to appreciate the boost provided by five weekends and the Memorial Day pull-ahead of some June sales. Early estimates for June suggest that the selling rate will be in the low sixteen-plus million range.

Element Financial Corporation has closed the previously announced acquisition of the assets and operations of PHH Arval. The transaction is transformational for Element's fleet management business, increasing the size of the Company's portfolio of fleet assets to $6 billion.

Ford and Hyundai issued seven recalls affecting nearly 160,000 vehicles. The largest recall involves more than 92,000 model year 2013-2014 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Ford Police Interceptor, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT; 2012-2014 Ford Edge; and 2014 Lincoln MKX models.

In early-July, automakers started releasing pricing incentive information for upcoming 2015 model year vehicles. Audi, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Nissan, and Volvo have offered attractive deals to help fleet managers move models off their selector lists and into their fleets.

A new study from the University of Michigan shows traffic fatalities are declining, even after a one-year reversal of the trend. The efforts of automakers to make cars and trucks safer during the last decade appear to be hitting the mark as U.S. fatalities have declined nearly 23 percent in recent years, according to a newly released survey. The drop comes despite the fact that people are driving more than ever.

The company appointed Jeffrey Walters to the position of Senior Vice President of Sales, effective July 1. Walters has been with Subaru since 1992, most recently as Vice President of Field Operations. He has worked in sales, distribution, and marketing, according to Subaru.

On July 10, General Motors appointed Robert E. Ferguson to Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy. Ferguson will report directly to GM CEO Mary Barra and is responsible for GM's federal, state, and international government relations and public policy activities in the U.S. and its markets around the globe. The appointment is effective immediately.
