Convening on January 22, attendees met at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Detroit to start things off. Mixing a great location and atmosphere with the Chapter's Annual Business Meeting, members had plenty of time to eat breakfast and network prior to getting down to business.

The St. Louis Gateway Chapter's January meeting had a lot to accomplish before attendees moved on to the 2014 St. Louis Auto Show at the Americas Center. It began with networking at the Renaissance Grand Hotel, the host for the first stage of the meeting, just before members took to the process of electing chapter leadership for 2015.

Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) increased for the third consecutive month in December. This pushed the December Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to a reading of 123.9, which represented an increase of 1.8 percent from a year ago.

Ford could be hit with extended recalls of its heavy-duty diesel trucks soon, as the U.S. government is investigating a malfunctioning sensor that can stall the engine of the trucks. The findings of the investigation will decide whether the company would need to expand the safety recalls, which it first started in 2013, or whether the recalls already made are enough to ensure safety.

In the late 1950s, Patrick Starr helped form NAFA, and was a major force for the institution of a yearly conference. The conference has changed names and grown to become today's Institute & Expo, considered the biggest gathering of fleet professionals in the industry. He received an Honorary Membership to NAFA in 1991.

NAFA was saddened to learn that longtime Affiliate and Club NAFA member Gino R. Francescangeli Jr. died on January 5. He passed away at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital with his family by his side. He was 61.

Cheap gas may make electric cars an even harder sell, according to BMW AG, the German luxury automaker that’s aiming for plug-in versions of all its top models.
