NAFA's Ontario Chapter does it again. Swinging the irons at the Copper Creek Golf Club on May 28, not only did people have a very good time, but participated in a very good cause. For a third year, the Ontario Chapter's golf outing supported The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). It is due to the generosity of our sponsors and to all who participated that NAFA Ontario will be presenting SickKids Hospital with a $30,000 donation!

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on June 8 urged auto safety regulators and automakers to do more to spur the introduction of forward collision-avoidance systems to keep cars from running into those in front of them. Since 2012, the NTSB has asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to mandate new safety technologies in all vehicles, which could dramatically reduce the number fatalities caused by driver distractions. But the auto safety agency hasn’t agreed to do so.

On May 28, a bipartisan group from the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce sent letters to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and seventeen automakers inquiring about how the industry plans to address the challenges associated with expanding technologies such as in-vehicle Wi-Fi, infotainment systems, and increased smartphone connectivity.

The lowest oil prices in over six years have fueled a resurgence in U.S. gasoline use in recent months as more Americans take to the road. Demand is expected to climb 1.5 percent this year to nearly 139 billion gallons (526 billion liters) according to the most recent U.S. government forecasts, enough to easily accommodate small increases in ethanol quotas without breaching the so-called "blend wall" that refiners say puts a cap on blending at around ten percent of total gasoline and diesel supply.

China may take the lead, along with the trucking sector, in the transport shift from oil to natural gas and liquefied natural gas, a report finds. Lower crude oil prices have taken the spotlight off the pursuit for natural gas as an alternative transport fuel. While passenger vehicles and trucks are comparable in terms of oil consumption, the study finds truck fleets have better economics and a faster turnover when it comes to switching to alternative fuel sources.

Twelve years ago, Ian Wright and some fellow engineers launched Tesla Motors, a Silicon Valley company that has helped jumpstart the market for electric cars. Now, the Tesla co-founder wants to electrify trucks that deliver packages, haul garbage, and make frequent stops on city streets. His latest venture, Wrightspeed, doesn't make the whole truck. Rather it sells electric powertrains that can be installed on medium-and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, making them cleaner, quieter, and more energy-efficient.
