On June 16, 2015, the government of British Columbia opened a public consultation Website on tougher penalties for distracted driving linked to the use of devices such as cell phones while driving. Overall, the government received more than 10,000 submissions and comments during the four-week long consultation.

Despite continuing economic uncertainty, wholesale automotive markets continued to enjoy growing volumes and stable pricing in the second quarter. Retail markets had higher volumes on narrower margins. F&I income and greater operating efficiencies kept profits at record highs.

Sales of new vehicles will continue to inch upwards through 2016, but could ultimately be limited by the diminished purchasing power of the younger "Millennial Generation," according to economists from the National Association of Auto Dealers (NADA). Sales of new cars and light trucks will continue their post-recession climb, reaching an all-time high of 17.46 million vehicles in 2016, said Steven Szakaly, Chief Economist of NADA.

Mazda North American said on August 4 that it is recalling 206,000 SUVs that may have rusted suspension parts — less than two months after the U.S. government opened an investigation. The Japanese automaker said the recall covers about 193,000 2007-2014 CX-9 SUVs in the United States with front suspension ball joints that may corrode from water leaking into the fitting.

China’s policymakers are working on a new initiative for spurring the usage of green vehicles, taking their cue from measures previously launched in the state of California. Two schemes are currently being drafted that will seek to incentivize the development or purchase of "new energy" vehicles by both automobile companies and consumers in China.

A new survey from the International Monetary Fund shows that the UK government is still providing billions of pounds in subsidies to fossil fuels, while on the other hand cutting support for renewables. Analysis of the report done by the RenewableUK Association implies the UK Government is still paying billions of pounds in subsidies to the UK fossil fuel industry, while at the same time making false overtures over the need to cut renewable subsidies to save average homeowners money on their energy bills.
