After several years of increases, a straight average of commercial fleet auction prices declined slightly in 2015. This was driven primarily by weakness in the compact car segment. As in the overall market, pickups and vans enjoyed lower-than-expected depreciation. All market segments exhibited smaller seasonal swings in pricing during 2015.

Not only is Michigan home to the Detroit Three automakers, it’s also state that sees drivers charged more for auto insurance than any other in the United States, according to a new study. The average cost of car insurance in Michigan is $2,738 a year: more than double the national average of $1,325. It marked the third year in a row that the Wolverine state took top "honors."

An intelligent "companion" component studies the driving style and preferences of the primary driver of the car so that it can eventually perform some daily tasks and offer advice about how best to complete others. It will also be able to communicate with humans outside the car—for example, signaling pedestrians when it is safe to cross in front of the car while it is in self-driving mode.

The 2017 Mercedes S Class plug-in hybrid will feature a brand new wireless charging system technology when it hits showrooms next summer. The new wireless charging system is being developed jointly with BMW in order to keep development costs relatively low. The system would allow for charging times similar to those provided by regular cable-based charging.

Volvo Cars believes the global automotive industry should strive towards the introduction of a standardized charging infrastructure for electric cars. To support this drive towards a global standard for electric car charging, Volvo has decided to throw its weight behind the Charging Interface Initiative, a consortium of stakeholders that was founded to establish their Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for charging battery-powered vehicles.

It's been six months since Volkswagen's infamous "Dieselgate" emissions scandal began. Since then, the German automaker has fired U.S. CEO Michael Horn, they face billions in fines, lawsuits, and bad PR, and they will likely miss their March 24 deadline to announce a fix.
