Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) remained unchanged between August and September. Non-seasonally adjusted prices declined 1 percent during the month. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index stood at 126.9 for September, an increase of 1.7 percent from a year ago.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations has opened an investigation into certain 2015 and 2016 Ford F-150 equipped with the manufacturer's 3.5 liter turbocharged V6. The federal agency has received 25 complaints of sudden brake failure, with the brake pedal going straight to the floor and the taillights illuminating on some of the '15 models. A few dealerships are saying that the issue is being caused by a brake master cylinder failure.

On October 3, NAFA and The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced the signing of an agreement in principle designed to increase energy efficiency in vehicle fleets of NAFA members and cable system operators. Once a formal agreement is finalized, the two organizations will promote professional development and standardization of operational practices in the fleet management field, and will work together to develop new training and benchmarking material that can help to identify and remedy inefficient practices.

German automotive supplier Continental AG recently purchased majority interest in Seattle-based fleet management technology provider Zonar. Continental is hoping this deal to expand their mobility services will also strengthen their position in the United States. Daimler AG will keep the remaining shares it already had in the telematics provider.

California’s newly released draft regulations are a mixed bag for tech firms and carmakers. They, for the first time, set out state rules for deploying driverless cars with no humans on board ready to take over. At the same time, California proposed that manufacturers "must obtain an ordinance or resolution from local authorities" laying out circumstances under which the cars can be tested on local streets.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s New Energy Industry Task Force is seeking out ways to better promote electric cars in Nevada and accelerate adoption of electric vehicles, or EVs. Research by the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project shows significant economic and other benefits as use of electric vehicles grows in the Silver State.

Last month, plug-in electric vehicles experienced some of their best sales figures ever in the United States. The majority of the sales were represented by battery electric vehicles, which sold just under 0.7 percent in a competitive passenger car and light truck market that saw 1.43 million sales. Combined with plug- in hybrids, a total of 16,609 were sold in September.
