As Members of Parliament returned to Ottawa the week of January 30, 2017 the main issue that was on the majority of their minds was how Canada would continue to engage with the new administration south of the border. Since President Donald Trump’s election in November and then his inauguration in January, Canadian politicians from all political parties have been mostly concerned with the relationship between Canada and the United States.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently accused Fiat Chrysler Automobiles of using software that enabled just over 104,000 of their diesel-powered trucks and SUVs to emit excess diesel emissions. These accusations are very similar to the ones made against Volkswagen last summer, when the German automaker was found to have violated diesel emissions testing with electronic "defeat devices."

National Auto Dealers Association (NADA) is asking President Donald Trump to void the Obama Administration’s move to approve the rules requiring automakers to cut greenhouse gases for model years 2022-2025. Hours after the administration issued its ruling on January 13, NADA President Peter Welch issued a statement, charging that the Obama administration had just made new cars and trucks more expensive to working men and women.

After years of concept art and consumer speculation, Ford executives made it official at the North American International Auto Show, that both the Bronco and the Ranger would be making a return to the U.S. market. They expect the Ranger pickup to hit showroom floors by 2019 and the Bronco to follow suit by 2020.

All Tesla cars with the HW2 kit, including Model S and Model X vehicles, are now receiving the over-the-air software update that includes the updated Autopilot features, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk notes that it’ll be present only in "non-actuating" mode for the time being.

ExxonMobil has been ordered to hand over documents related to a state investigation into whether it misled the public about the impact of fossil fuels on the climate. The decision is a win for Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, who's trying to determine if the company deceived investors and consumers by hiding what it knew about the link between burning fossil fuels and climate change.

Scott Pruitt, the Trump Administration's choice to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, stated in his confirmation hearing last month that the agency has overstepped its bounds. The former oil industry lawyer and current Oklahoma Attorney General stated that he believes in a "states' rights" approach to environmental regulation, but that he also plans to review California's ability to set it's own air quality and emissions standards.
