Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) fell by 0.2 percent in February. However, given a sharp decline in pricing in February of last year, the Manheim Index now shows a year-over-year gain of 1.1 percent. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index stood at 124.6 for February.

After decades of struggling in Europe, General Motors has pulled back from the markets, selling their Opel and Vauxhall brands, as well as the European arm of their financial division, to French automaker PSA Group. The deal is valued at $2.3 billion. and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. This transaction seems to signal that GM will begin to look more at expanding more in Asia.

Since Donald Trump began his presidential campaign in 2016, he has made the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) a major topic of conversation, saying he would do everything from rewriting it to pulling the U.S. out of the agreement entirely. Now, Mexico's Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal is speaking up on the subject. He says that NAFTA must be revised, but only if all three signatories of the treaty benefit from the changes.

Automakers sold 1.33 million vehicles in the United States in February. That number is down 1.1 percent from the same month one year ago, as consumers continue to shift from buying cars to purchasing trucks and SUVs. And even though vehicle sales continue at a near-record pace so far in 2017, some analysts see trouble ahead as automakers prime the market with bigger incentives to move high inventories of unsold vehicles.

The Board of Directors of NAFA, operating under new bylaws and election procedures adopted in 2016, recently elected the first slate of Officers under its new guidelines. The new rules saw four new Directors elected to the Board in January, joining nine Directors whose terms were continuing. Then, in February, the full Board of 13 Directors elected from among themselves NAFA’s new President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and 11 other Democrats have said it is "critical" that the Trump Administration leave in place new fuel efficiency rules, stating that the standards are achievable. Scott Pruitt of the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to reopen a review of the fuel economy rules that were put in place by the Obama Administration for the 2022-2025 period.
