Ford Motor Company has announced that they will be adding another vehicle to their police fleet lineup. The automaker unveiled the Ford Police Responder, a modified Fusion hybrid sedan that fights crime and smog. Although used vehicle values have declined in five of the last six months, it has not been the collapse that many analysts have warned of for more than a year due to increasing wholesale supplies. In fact, what weakness we have seen is probably more a result of excessive new vehicle inventory, not used. At retail, the used vehicle market remains healthy, and dealers have needed only a modest decline in auction pricing to maintain acceptable inventory turn rates.

Lawmakers Seek Funding Agreement to Avoid Shutdown, NAFA Weighs in on NHTSA Connected Vehicle Tech Proposal, and House Committee Seeks to Curb Traffic Fatalities

Past Conservative Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, who was instrumental in negotiating the original North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, spoke to the Liberal cabinet on April 6. This was monumental as Canada does not have a history of governments inviting past Prime Ministers who originate from a different political party.

Ford Motor Company has issued three recalls since March 29. The first involves about 231,000 vehicles that are equipped with 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engines, which pose a potential fire hazard. The second involves approximately 211,000 vehicles with door latches that are prone to easily breaking. The third involves 52,000 F-250s that can roll away when parked. These issues are expected to cost the company over $295 million to resolve.
