Procurement executives gave NAFA rave reviews for its presentation on The Economics of Fleet at the recent Institute for Supply Management (ISM) annual conference in Orlando, Florida. Nearly 150 supply chain experts attended the fleet-centric session presented by NAFA’s Director of Professional Development, Katherine Vigneau, CAFM ®. Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) increased 1.1 percent month-over-month in June. This brought the Manheim Used Vehicle Value reading to 129.3, which was a record high for the second consecutive month and represented a 2.5 percent increase from a year ago. On a year-over-year basis, the mid-sized car category saw the largest decline (down 2.1 percent) in June, while pickups and vans saw gains greater than the overall market.

On July 4, 2017, Minister of Transport Marc Garneau announced the National Trade Corridors Fund of $2.1 billion which invites proposals that will help modernize and make more efficient transportation and trade infrastructure in Canada. This announcement is in support of the Liberals commitment to infrastructure which they believe will help grow the Canadian economy.

All Volvo car models launched after 2019 will be electric or hybrids, the Chinese-owned company said, making it the first major traditional automaker to set a date for phasing out vehicles powered solely by the internal combustion engine. The Sweden-based company will continue to produce pure combustion-engine Volvos from models launched before that date, but its move signals the eventual end of nearly a century of Volvos powered solely that way.

Waymo, the self-driving car unit of Alphabet Inc., has reached an agreement for Avis Budget Group Inc. to manage its fleet of autonomous vehicles. It’s the first such deal in a field that’s still fledgling but exploding with partnerships. The rental car firm will service and store Waymo’s Chrysler Pacifica minivans in Phoenix, where the parent of Google is testing a ride-hailing service with volunteer members of the public. Waymo will own the vehicles and pay Avis for its service, an arrangement that is set for multiple years but not exclusive.
