Looking at trends in weekly Manheim Market Report (MMR) prices, the traditional spring bounce this year started three weeks later and peaked in April in week 15. Used vehicle prices had been moving down since that April peak, but that trend took a surprising turn in the last two weeks of June. As a result, prices remain higher now compared to where they were at the beginning of the year, or in any of the last three years. Price comparisons to last year are starting to get tougher, but this recent increase regained some ground to keep current price performance ahead of last year.

Cook Children’s Medical Center, a not-for-profit pediatric hospital located in Fort Worth, Texas, is dedicated to treating the most complex medical conditions children face. Cook Children’s three “Teddy Bear Transport” aircraft are at the ready whenever they are needed, according to NAFA Regular Member Robert Hailey, CAFS.

Features in this edition: On May 23, 2018, as directed by President Trump, Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur Ross initiated a Section 232 investigation into whether imports of automobiles, including SUVs, vans, light trucks and automotive parts, threaten to impair national security.
On June 26, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a proposed rule under the Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS) program that would set the minimum amount of renewable fuel that must be supplied to the market in the calendar year 2019, as well as the biomass-based diesel volume standard for the calendar year 2020.
The U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology is currently conducting an ongoing probe into the concealed use of technology to illegally circumvent emissions requirements. In April, the Committee sent a letter to Volkswagen (VW) regarding allegations that VW “continues to circumvent global emissions requirements using stealth technology, despite VW entering into a settlement with the U.S. government for billions of dollars for previous allegations of cheating emissions tests and deceiving customers.”

The trade-related war of words has heated up into something more meaningful – and potentially damaging – between Canada and the United States. Originally exempt from American steel and aluminum tariffs, Canada is now on the “national security threat” list. The Canadian government has responded in kind, hitting American steel and aluminum imports with retaliatory tariffs, as well as a suite of politically chosen consumer goods.
