With the departure of Phil Russo as NAFA’s CEO on August 2, 2019, the Board of Directors appointed Chief Operating Officer Bill Schankel, CAE, as NAFA’s Interim CEO to ensure the association continues to deliver its best-in-the-industry educational programs, networking, member services, and initiatives. "Bill and staff have been doing a fantastic job and I sincerely feel NAFA is in very good hands while the search for a new leader is underway," said NAFA President Patti Earley, CAFM®.
Launched during the 2019 Institute & Expo this past April, NAFA's Communities have been setting the pace for membership networking and interaction. Each NAFA Community goes deep into a specific aspect and/or segment of fleet. NAFAConnection spoke with the leader of the Educational/University Fleets Community, Michael G. Wilson, CAFM®. Mike is a longtime NAFA Regular Member with strong engagement with the Association's educational efforts.

Remarketing Strategy
After seeing stability in July in weekly Manheim Market Report (MMR) prices, depreciation returned in August but at a very low level. Three-year-old vehicle values in aggregate were down 0.5% for the month, when prices normally decline by at least 1%. As a result of low depreciation, prices in aggregate in non-luxury remain higher than the beginning of the year. Last August saw price appreciation, which is why the year-over-year comparison in values is the weakest in more than two years.

NAFA’s CAFM/CAFS testing process just became a breeze! You can now test virtually anywhere and anytime you’d like. Thanks to feedback from NAFA Members, the Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) and Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) testing processes are now online. The new testing regimen will significantly improve the convenience of earning your CAFM/CAFS.
NAFA is a Community Partner of the VERGE 19 conference and expo this October, in Oakland, Calif. VERGE 19 is the platform for companies, cities, and communities accelerating the clean economy. NAFA will participate in presentations as part of the Low-Carbon and Electric Fleet Workshop, hosted by NAFA Board of Directors Member Richard Battersby, CAFM, Assistant Director of City of Oakland Public Works. This interactive workshop will tackle the challenges fleet managers face when greening fleets and will put you on the path to meeting your sustainability goals.

A cloudy sky hung over Birchwood Manor, but that didn't stop NAFA's New Jersey Chapter from hosting its annual Ride & Drive event on Tuesday, September 10. Nearly 50 fleet professionals attended the product showcase, test drives, and lunch. This gave fleet managers the chance to meet with service providers and a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to discuss topics including new technologies and sustainability efforts.

It provides you with a comprehensive look at legislation and regulatory issues impacting fleet in the United States. The tracker sorts issues by subject matter, provides a quick summary and status report, and indicates NAFA’s position.
