Regarding his appointment, Martines said, "(I feel) a sense of appreciation and recognition for my years of dedication to NAFA. (The Board of Trustees’) faith in my character, honesty, and integrity; as well as my willingness stand firm on doing what was right for NAFA; made it easy for me to say yes. Much has been made of the fact that the Canadian vehicle market posted a third straight record year in 2015, with just under 1.9 million new vehicles rolling off dealers’ lots. Less well known, however, is that only a little over 1.5 million of those cars were purchased by consumers. The remainder – well in excess of 300,000 vehicles – represented a record year for Canadian fleet sales last year.

Industry News
J.D. Power expects light vehicle sales to rise one percent in April over last year's. This modest growth has caused the institution, as well as LMC Automotive, to reduce their predictions of total light vehicle sales for this year from 14.5 million units to 14.3 million. But while retail sales are trending down, LMC expects these losses to be recouped through an increase in fleet sales.

Ever since Ford discontinued the Crown Victoria, and the Panther platform altogether, they have been billing their Taurus and Explorer Interceptors as their new workhorse offings for police fleets across the country. However, while both of these vehicles were introduced in 2012, the Explorer Interceptor Utility has been selling far better than Taurus Interceptors. And that trend is still continuing in 2016.

After seven months of seemingly endless turmoil for Volkswagen, the automaker recently announced it has reached a consensus with the Environmental Protection Agency and California state officials in a San Francisco court. Senior U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer informed VW last month that they had until April 21 to come up with a "concrete solution" to the company's diesel emission issues. While it will be expensive for VW, it appears that they have done just that.

Back in February, it was reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was looking into certain Fiat Chrysler vehicles because there was a chance that their electric shifters could cause the car to roll away after being parked. Now, FCA has announced that they are voluntarily recalling some 1.1 million vehicles that are equipped with this potentially problematic ZF eight speed shifter.

Sustainability
You might not be that surprised to see more and more SUVs on the roads lately, given that gas is still on the cheaper side. But what might be a bit shocking is that many of those SUV owners are drivers who traded in their hybrid and/or electric vehicles (EVs) to buy a "gas guzzler." It seems that the lure of cheaper gasoline is too strong to resist, even for owners of alternative fuel vehicles.
