Legislative News
Even in the run up to what is normally a marquee policy-unveiling event for the federal government, expectations had been ratcheted down as the Finance Minister crafted a largely stay-the-course budget document. Predicted large-scale personal and business tax changes were nowhere to be found in the government’s second fiscal plan, as Minister Bill Morneau adopted a wait-and-see attitude.

Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling nearly 1 million of its popular Sonata sedans in the United States due to a seat belt defect. This issue has already been linked to at least one known injury. The recall affects conventional, gas-powered Sonata's sold from the 2011 through the 2014 model year. The 2011 to 2015 Sonata hybrid is also covered by this recall, per an NHTSA report.

While automakers have been racing each other to become the first to introduce an autonomous vehicle to the road, a new study by AAA found that over three quarters (78 percent) of U.S. drivers are afraid of the idea of riding in a self-driving car. On the other hand, 59 percent of drivers said they would want such technology in their next vehicle. So while they are ready to accept this technology, U.S. drivers are not quite ready to give up full control.

Honda announced in late-March that it will aggressively pursue vehicle electrification. With a goal of two-thirds of brand sales coming from battery or hydrogen-fuel-cell vehicles by 2030, the Japanese manufacturer is bullish on alternative fuels. Though a pioneer in battery and hydrogen powertrains beginning with its (now defunct) Insight hybrid in 2000, Honda has had little impact on the electric vehicle market and only sold one battery-powered model in 2016, the Accord Hybrid sedan.
