The Nominating Committee evaluated nearly two dozen Candidate Consideration Forms submitted by members who wished to be considered for the highest leadership positions in NAFA. Each committee member evaluated every candidate on ten characteristics and skills deemed desirable by NAFA’s Board of Directors. The committee also considered the candidates’ work background, involvement with NAFA, and ability to help advance NAFA’s mission, goals, and strategic plans.

Remarketing Strategy
On a year-over-year basis, most major market segments saw price gains in November; but more affordable vehicles continue to see the greatest increase in values. Compact cars and midsize cars outperformed the overall market, while utility vehicles and pickups underperformed the overall market. Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) decreased 1.32 percent month-over-month in November.

Legislative News
In the news: NAFA has submitted comments on two proposed rulemaking by NHTSA. Rep. Kevin Brady has released a draft tax package that no longer included the language on the renewal of many tax credits that expired at the end of 2017, which had been a part of a previous draft. Rep. Peter DeFazio announced that he is planning to introduce legislation that would call for a national vehicle miles traveled pilot program. The U.S., Canada, and Mexico trade agreement may face a challenge in the U.S., as leaders of the soon to be Democratic-controlled House have expressed serious concerns over labor and environment provisions of the agreement. GM announced that it would be shuttering four U.S. plants and laying off about 15,000 employees.

In the news: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto signed the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement at the G20 in Buenos Aires on November 30, 2018. Legislative bodies in all three countries will now need to ratify the agreement.
