ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys - 2021 Standards
April 27 | 12 p.m. CT | CLE: 1.5
In 1962, the American Title Association (the predecessor to the American Land Title Association) and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (the predecessor to the National Society of Professional Surveyors) established the first Minimum Standard Detail Requirements for Land Title Surveys. These standards recognized the technical abilities and standards of the Professional Land Surveyor, along with the needs that the Land Title Insurance industry have when asked to “insure title to land without exceptions as to the many matters which might be discoverable from a survey.” Through the years, there have been numerous revisions and updates to these standards. The current version became effective on February 23, 2021.
Many commercial real estate lenders, developers, investors, and agencies utilize the ALTA Survey. Members of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) are charged with reviewing surveys and titles as part of the due diligence process.
The purpose of this course is to review the history of the Minimum Standard Detail Requirements and discuss the recent changes in the 2021 version. An emphasis is placed on the understanding and application of these standards.
