Emerging leaders in the asphalt pavement industry were in Washington, D.C. Sept. 24-26 for the IMPACT Leadership Group Conference, where they engaged in discussions on hiring, culture, and technology.
NAPA members joined members of the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association (NSSGA) and the National Ready-Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA) on Capitol Hill as part of Hill Day, a collective advocacy event. In the latest episode of Pave It Black, Richard and Brett dive into the world of additive technologies. Additives play a crucial role in enhancing mixture performance and promoting sustainability through increased recycle content and lower production temperatures. Patrick Weaver from Surface Tech discusses best practices for introducing and controlling new technologies in asphalt mix production, the benefits of precision dosing, and key metrics producers should consider when evaluating additives.
David White, President of NAPA member Superior Paving Corp., joined a Capitol Hill panel on Sept. 18 speaking on tax implications for family businesses organized by Family Enterprise USA’s Congressional Family Business Caucus.
NAPA’s Richard Willis will chair the TRB Committee on Production and Use of Asphalt. "The committee is focused on production and use of asphalt," Willis said. "There is nothing more practical and implementation-focused than that.”
On Sept. 23, the House of Representatives passed HR 7685, the Innovative Mitigation Partnerships for Asphalt and Concrete Technologies (IMPACT) Act. NAPA Vice President for Government Affairs Nile Elam said NAPA’s work on the bill from inception to House passage underscores the industry’s work on low-carbon solutions in Congress.
NAPA’s Quality in Construction Awards (QIC) projects must clear benchmarks in gradation, asphalt binder content, air voids, and density as determined by independent engineers. Of those QIC projects, the highest rated 10 projects under 50,000 tons each year are recognized with the Larry H. Lemon Award, named for former NAPA Board Chairman Larry Lemon, who was integral in creating the impartial QIC rating system.
The NAPA 2024 Perpetual Pavement Conference is heading to Louisville, Kentucky Oct. 28-30 for a series of discussions on long-lasting pavements at the intersection of taxpayer stewardship and engineering innovation. Finding, viewing, and downloading NAPA resources is now easier than ever. And, for the first time, they're all free. Welcome to the NAPA Resource Center, and a new era in sharing the latest in asphalt pavement research.
