A report from the Airport Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP) aims to simplify the asphalt binder selection process for airfield flexible pavement designs.

Guidance for Selection of Proper Asphalt Binder Grade, completed in July, documents recommendations for selecting asphalt binder based on location, climate, aircraft loading, speed, and pavement layer.

NAPA’s Advisory Council added 17 new members as part of the state advisor elections this fall. The new members will serve a three-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2025. The charge of the Advisory Council is to enhance industry advocacy, advance NAPA through recruitment and participation, and deepen neighboring state collaboration by supporting active member company engagement.

NAPA’s tool for generating environmental product declarations (EPDs) for asphalt pavement mixes has new features in its latest version. The Emerald Eco-Label tool includes calculations to measure biogenic carbon in pavement materials in version 2.3.0. The update also includes changes to binder additives to account for biogenic carbon, while fixing bugs.

Up to $300,000 is available to grantees selected through the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Education Program Grant, which in total is offering $1.8 million toward inspiring and preparing the next generation of transportation professionals through activities like curriculum development, internships, mentorships, and hands-on learning experiences.
