Building Community and Giving Back Through NAPFA
Jordan Banning, CFP®, of Crafted Financial Planning
Fee-Only financial planning isn’t just about the numbers; it’s about making a meaningful and positive difference in people’s lives. Jordan Banning, CFP®, is passionate about multiplying that impact, not only among his clients but also for fellow professionals through NAPFA. As the Membership Chair on the Genesis Board, Jordan supports the next generation of advisors, helping maximize their experience by connecting them with valuable resources and NAPFA’s greatest strength—its dedicated community.
“I’m proud of the enhancements we’re discussing to leverage that strength further—as an example, making it easier to find or start a MIX Group with the right people, and connect with other advisors who are navigating similar waters,” he says. NAPFA MIX Groups bring together NAPFA members with shared goals and backgrounds to collaborate on best practices and solve common challenges.
After launching his solo RIA, Crafted Financial Planning, in 2023, Jordan joined NAPFA, initially looking for a way to contribute to the profession’s broader mission. “NAPFA clearly stood out for its alignment with my professional values: a genuine client-centric approach, complete and comprehensive financial planning, and an ongoing commitment to education,“ he shares.
Serving High-Earning Millennials with Integrated Tax Solutions
With over 15 years of personal finance experience, Jordan has always sought ways to blend analytical problem-solving and meaningful human impact. As the founder of Crafted Financial Planning in Glendale, Ariz., Jordan serves high-earning clients in tech and medicine, including software developers, dentists, pharmacists, and business owners. With a technical superpower for strategic tax planning and equity compensation strategies, Jordan often helps professionals in their 30s and 40s navigate high tax brackets, irregular cash flows, and the balance between current and future needs. “At times, I tend to over-analyze and over-explain things; fortunately, that can be a strength when working with engineer types!” he explains.
As a recipient of the NAPFA Genesis scholarship, Jordan attended the 2024 Spring Conference as a new solo practitioner, experiencing the power of the NAPFA community for the first time. “Having access to experienced Fee-Only planners who freely share their knowledge has been invaluable for my practice and myself,” he shares.
As a firm of one, Jordan finds Holistiplan, a scenario analysis tool, and Claude AI, an AI assistant, valuable for practitioners. A “HolistiFan,” Jordan finds the tool effective in modeling client situations for tax projections, exercising stock options, Roth conversions, and more. He adds, “AI has multiplied what I can accomplish by myself with marketing, research, and internal operations. I even developed a marketing research tool in Python that helps me better serve my target demographic.”
From networking to shaping the future of the Fee-Only profession, Jordan encourages other NAPFA members to volunteer for many reasons—but at its core, it comes down to the community. “If you’re thinking about plugging in somewhere where you can share your talents and make an impact, NAPFA really is a great place for that ,” he shares. “Working with so many talented professionals committed to advancing Fee-Only planning has been incredibly rewarding.”
If you’re new to NAPFA, we encourage you to connect with Jordan to unlock the full value of your membership benefits and experience.
