Financial Advisor recognized 10 financial advisors, including seven NAPFA members, in “10 Young Advisors To Watch.” They included Sweta Bhargav, Samuel Deane, Shane Mason, Tom Presley, Matthew G. Ricks, Lindsey Swanson, and Jeremy Walter. Here’s a sampling of what the magazine says about them.
Bhargav “saw that some communities of people, particularly immigrants and first-generation Americans, did not have access to the same knowledge and resources. Thus, Adviso’s chief role to its clients and the communities it serves is to be an educational partner, one that is sorely needed in some areas.”
“Samuel S. Deane knew he wanted to be a business owner after working with his mother, a nurse who had created her own staffing agency in the mid-2010s. His family were immigrants of very humble means who had come to Brooklyn from St. Lucia in 1999, when Samuel was 7 and lived in a small apartment together.”
Mason’s firm started as “a side gig, a part-time financial planning firm for the creatives he knew, such as journalists, photographers, editors and videographers,” but then it expanded to tech professionals with questions about stock options.
“Presley and four other partners at Brightworth started the ‘Propel Your Wealth’ program to serve … clients, usually high earners in their 30s, through life changes like buying their first house, having their first child and scoring their first big promotion.”
For Ricks, “as he was doing pro bono work through the local FPA chapter, he discovered something else—a special need for advice among the disabled.”
Swanson was “raised in a conservative religious community in Nebraska and homeschooled in an environment that didn’t value her math education because she was female. … Swanson admits she ‘was bad at math, bad at finances.’”
For Walter, “His values were set in place by his own family’s culture shock early on: When Walter was in high school, his father left the family’s thriving business supply company and became a pastor.”

The second in NAPFA’s series of three three-webinar master classes on marketing, “Using Email Marketing and Social Media as ‘Push Strategies,’” started on April 27, but you can catch up by watching the recordings from the first two sessions. The final session will be held on June 22.
These sessions discuss how to effectively use email communications and social media to push out content, why to embrace an automated lead nurture sequence, examples of how other advisors are using it, and how to get started with email programs like MailChimp. Participants create a “drip nurture” sequence, email campaign, or social media campaign and share it with the coaches and other participants for feedback. The coaches include Marie Swift and Jonny Swift of Impact Communications and Alex Cavalieri of Seven Group.
Classes are presented live and are recorded, and there is no fee for members to enroll.
