Understand Diwali with Info from a NAPFA Member

A Q&A with NAPFA member Shalmali Kulkarni explains the Hindu holiday of Diwali, which is celebrated every autumn, following a lunar calendar. This year, it is celebrated Nov. 10–14.

Kulkarni says, “It is a busy time in an Indian household during Diwali, so definitely don’t set any meetings during that time and don’t expect any return emails either.” If you do see clients during the festival, she suggests greeting them with “Happy Diwali” or “Happy Dipavali.”

The NAPFA Fall Conference will be held Oct. 18–21 at the Omni Louisville Hotel.

The first keynote will be “Planning for Disruption: How to Future-Proof Yourself, Fearlessly Innovate, and Succeed Despite Uncertainty.” It will help audience members discover how small changes in approach and slight shifts in tactics can help drive breakthrough results. It will also suggest how to plan around uncertainty, future-proof a business, and stay one step ahead of tomorrow’s marketplace—and one step ahead of the competition.

“Preparing for the People-Centered, Technology Enabled, Financial Planning Engagements of the Future” will explore the relationship between technology and financial planning, with a focus on fintech integration into client interaction to amplify a planner’s impact.

“National Economic Update” will cover current economic conditions in the U.S., along with expected economic outcomes in the short and longer terms. It will also cover current monetary policy decisions of the Federal Reserve and how they affect businesses as well as households.

The two optional preconference workshops are “Applying the Psychology of Financial Planning: Grief, Trust and Transparency” and “Tax Planning Over the Next 5 Years.”
