NAWIC Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Complete Hard Hatted Woman Documentary

At Annual Conference this year, filmmaker Lorien Barlow gave a passionate presentation about her in-progress film Hard Hatted Woman. This is a first-ever documentary about women in construction trades! She’s in the last throws of production and needs our financial help to bring it to completion.
We believe this film will be a force-multiplier for promoting women in the industry, and we are asking our membership to help make it a reality. Our collective efforts will make the measurable difference. Go to gofundme.com/nawic to watch the trailer, donate and learn more.
Keep this in mind: For even the smallest chapters, the cost per person ends
up being no more than a movie ticket, soda and popcorn! To ensure our
campaign’s success, please share the GoFundMe link to your Chapter’s
Facebook page so individual members can donate if they wish.
Frequently Asked Questions
HOW FAR ALONG IS THE FILM?
The film will have a premiere date of early 2020. Lorien, the producer-director, has raised over 75% of the total budget and has $100,000 more to go. The film is entirely shot and being edited as we speak, and NAWIC’s financial support will ensure that her team can keep working steadily toward the finish line. Many of us have been eagerly following this project for years, and now is our chance to help send it out into the world.
WHERE WILL THE FILM BE SHOWN?
This will be a theatrical-length documentary film and a full cinematic experience. In addition to screening at festivals across the country, and potentially broadcast distribution, the film will be readily available to community groups — schools, companies, organizations — who want to host or attend screenings of the film. Ultimately, the film will become available for streaming or online purchase.
HOW WILL NAWIC BENEFIT?
Through ongoing partnership with the film, NAWIC will benefit from not only broad visibility as a sponsor among national audiences, but also our membership will enjoy special access to the film. Benefits include:
- A special premiere of the film at our 2020 national conference followed by Q&A with the director and two cast/crew members from the film
- Acknowledgment of NAWIC as a major funder in the end credits of the film
- Premier placement of NAWIC’s logo on the film’s website
- A dedicated page on both the film and NAWIC’s websites acknowledging all chapters and members who donated to this campaign
- NAWIC logo on Hard Hatted Woman promotional t-shirts
Most important, this film will be a valuable tool for engagement and outreach that NAWIC chapters may use for their ongoing programs and events.
