Have a happy holiday season from the NAWIC National staff! We’ve heard your feedback and are excited to announce the launch of the first phase of our website refresh, that went live on Monday, December 9th! Over the past few months, we’ve partnered with Pixel Power out of Cleveland, Ohio, to make strategic updates aimed at improving navigation and accessibility, ensuring you can easily find the information you need.
A recording of the webinar has been made available for those who were unable to join the live where NAWIC National and Pixel Power answered member questions! You can view it here!
Your feedback continues to shape our efforts, and we look forward to building a resource that truly supports the NAWIC community. Thank you for your patience and input as we work toward a fully refreshed website experience! Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months! Two years ago, the Building Better: Women in Construction study provided groundbreaking insights into what it’s really like to be a woman in construction. Now, Ambition Theory and NCCER are launching a follow-up survey to go even deeper—focusing on the support women need to thrive, advance, and lead in this industry.
If you’re a woman in construction, we want to hear from you! Your input will help us identify the resources and support that can make a real difference for women’s careers. Take a few minutes to complete the survey, and please share the link with other women in construction who might want to add their voices.
Education / Training
Winter is Coming
Those are frightful words for anyone who was a fan of Game of Thrones. It has an ominous tone. Though, it is less ominous since leaving NY winters behind for the more temperate North Carolina. Rounding the corner toward the new year, it’s helpful to dedicate a little time to thinking about the future. This is not a pitch for New Year resolutions. I fundamentally eschew resolutions. Research shows that they don’t stick for many reasons.
NEF is solely supported by sponsorships and donations and its Ladder Club of Success offers individuals the opportunity to support NEF with one-time or reoccurring automatic donations. Your financial support educates others through various programs and construction industry education courses. Fundraising is also done by NEF Fundraising Liaisons at a Regional and Chapter level.
Investing in your leadership training is a big decision and it can be tough to know if you’re ready or what kind of training you need. If you know you’d like to take the next step in your career but aren’t sure if the Leadership Academy is right for you, our free info session can help you decide.
NAWIC Benefits Spotlight
Industry Update
Traditionally male-dominated, the construction industry has slowly started to hire more women, who now account for 10.8 percent of this sector's workforce. To meet a continued demand for labor demand, the sector needs to attract around half a million new workers beyond the usual hiring pace, according to a news release from the trade group Associated Builders and Contractors.
Could recruiting more women in construction be the solution the industry is seeking? Let's explore.

A Christmas lunch attended by more than 200 women across the region’s construction sector has looked to ‘bridge the gap between education and industry’.
The Women in Construction Anglia event, at Ipswich Town Football Club on December 10, aimed to inspire the next generation of women to take up a career in the sector, while giving students the opportunity to meet female role models in the industry.

Job openings in construction are at near record levels, with millions of jobs created through the Biden-Harris Administration’s CHIPS and Science Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and Inflation Reduction Act. But right now, women are vastly underrepresented in the construction industry. While the number of women entering construction has increased slightly over the past several years, right now, women make up just 11 percent of the industry overall and only 4 percent of workers in skilled trades.
