Association News
Dear NAWIC members, As an organization that spends time at the round table of diversity, participating in the conversation on equity and inclusion for women in a male-dominated industry, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) stands with our brothers and sisters likewise asking for equity and inclusion. At NAWIC, we have always been women-focused with a core purpose fixed on strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry. This remains true. What also runs deep in our association is our commitment to inclusion and growth, which means recognizing how vital it is to amplify the voices of women of color in the construction industry. We believe in and hold at the core of our values an admiration and respect for courageous leadership, and our female colleagues of color have been consistent leaders in courage and excellence. Their passion and dedication to the industry is an inspiration, and we stand in solidarity with them and honor them — today and every day. In the history of our country, we have seen that change requires a catalyst and bold leadership. In anticipation of the changes needed in our nation and the world at large, we are calling upon our members and our professional community to join us in being catalysts for change through the denouncement of racism, the amplification of the voices and successes of women of color, and the active role we all choose to take in educating ourselves on the actions needed to eliminate racial biases. You can find NAWIC's Position Statement on Discrimination on the NAWIC website here. Join us as we embrace courageous leadership through the promotion of mutual respect, equality, diversity, and inclusion. Diane Mike, CBT Over the past months, we have been closely monitoring the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic to make the best decision possible regarding NAWIC’s 65th Annual Conference in August. We have remained acutely aware of how valued this opportunity for networking, education, community and recognition of achievements is, while also recognizing that the safety and well-being of our members and partners is — and must remain — our top priority. With COVID-19 numbers again on the rise in many places and a number of our members once again experiencing increased restrictions from both their states and businesses, as well as a personal level of discomfort associated with traveling during a pandemic and the financial and health risks associated with such travel, we want you to know that we are listening and, as such, have made the decision to move to a virtual conference platform this year. We don’t have all the details ironed out just yet but know that we are busily re-structuring for the best possible benefit and experience for you all and that we will have more information to you very soon! So stay tuned for more details about our first ever Virtual Annual Conference this August and thank you in advance for your patience and feedback as we all negotiate changing landscapes. Please note:
As a reminder, in anticipation of our NAWIC rebranding, we’re having a HUGE sale on current NAWIC store items to make room for items with our new logo! Be sure to visit the online store and stock up on “Classic” NAWIC gear before it’s gone!
