Each year, ASHE recognizes 10 exceptional Emerging Leaders, one from each ASHE region, for their demonstrated commitment to the field and interest in developing future leadership skills. NEHES is proud to announce that Wally Rucki, CHFM, has been selected for this prestigious award for 2024!

Wally Rucki is a 2007 graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a bachelor's degree in marine engineering. Following graduation, he spent the next 13 years actively going to sea with four years on oil tankers and nine years on a global-classed oceanographic research vessel. He "sailed" his way up to Unlimited Chief Engineer, at the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii. After making the decision to stop sailing, he spent the next two years working as a port engineer for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii. Then he transitioned to building and implementing a preventative maintenance system across four campuses and 5.5 million square feet for Tufts University. Since 2006, Wally has also served his community as a paramedic, NRP. While he has truly enjoyed each of the jobs and careers in the past, these experiences have led him to where he is today as the Director of Facilities & Plant Operations for Northeast Hospital Corporation, a member of Beth Israel Lahey Health. Wally has been in this position and a member of NEHES since February 2022.

Wally is currently serving as the Secretary of the NEHES Massachusetts Chapter. His diverse professional accomplishments, chapter leadership, and dedication to the hospital facilities industry are certainly why he was selected as the 2024 ASHE Emerging Regional Leader!
