NEHES News
Dear NEHES members,

We hope that each one of you are staying safe and well during this time. We would like to thank you for all you are doing at your facilities in keeping up with the demand, as we try to get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you to all who joined us for our first-ever virtual conference. With over 250 facility managers, business partners and esteemed speakers in attendance, we hope you made connections, increased your knowledge and had some fun while you were at it!

The virtual conference featured presentations that supported this year’s theme: “Sustaining Healthcare Now and Into the Future: Continuous Improvement without Exhausting Resources.” The Fall Conference committee did an excellent job selecting topics relevant in today’s environment. Thank you to the committee from the Rhode Island Healthcare Engineers’ Society, led by CJ Brown, NEHES Education Chair, for their work on this year’s event.
Thank you to all of our NEHES Members who approved the Officer slate presented during the Business Meeting at the 2020 Virtual Fall Conference. It is our honor to announce the NEHES Officers for 2021:

Cole Teague – President
Dann Boyer – President-Elect
David Fowler – Treasurer
CJ Brown – Secretary

At this time, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board of Directors for their service, dedication and support of NEHES over the last year. Thanks to the 2020 Board of Directors!

Why did you join NEHES?
I joined NEHES because I was new to the healthcare engineering field and I felt the best way to quickly gain knowledge and start building professional relationships with fellow healthcare engineers was to become an active NEHES member.

What would you say to encourage someone to join?
I believe that being a NEHES member is one of the best ways to stay informed of industry trends and creative ideas and solutions to everyday issues experienced in the day to day life of a healthcare engineer.

Benefits of NEHES
As a NEHES member I have been able to learn from very experienced and talented healthcare engineers from across New England and use that knowledge to improve the operations of my organization. The Spring and Fall conferences have also proved to be very valuable. The conferences not only helped me expand my professional network, they allowed me to connect with vendors and engineering design teams that have had a positive impact on the continued improvement of this facility.

NEHES was pleased to present several awards during the 2020 Virtual Fall Conference including the Chapter Leadership Award, Engineer of the Year Award, Chapter Excellence Awards and the President’s Award.

ASHE Update
By Edward M. Browne, CHFM, CHC, FASHE

The fall is finally upon us, and the days are getting much shorter. Although socially we have had to keep ourselves safe, and we seem to learn new ways to adapt to this new world order every day, I can affirm that ASHE business is going on as usual, just in a virtual format. Let me offer our NEHES membership the following updates.
This is the final week to register for the 2020 ASHE Annual Virtual Conference. Join your peers October 5-7 as ASHE transitions its previously planned 2020 Annual Conference & Technical Exhibition into a dynamic online experience. This reimagined platform provides attendees with opportunities to learn, connect and grow with peers and vendors as the field works together to transform the health care physical environment. Sessions will address timely issues such as pandemic recovery and updates from The Joint Commission. Attendees can also earn up to 25.5 continuing education credits. Can't attend during the planned conference dates? Sessions will be available on demand until Dec. 31.
