Fall Conference 2022 Committee Chair

Hello fellow NEHES members,

As this year’s Fall Conference Committee Chair, I would like to take a moment and share with you all of the great work our Fall Conference Planning Committee has been doing thus far. This year’s Fall Conference theme “Net Zero: Much More Than Going Green” brings us many educational opportunities for members to learn about carbon footprint reduction, green energy, and process improvements and implementations you can utilize to reduce your facility’s impact on the planet.

We will begin the conference with our annual golf tournament at Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough, Maine on Sunday, September 18 with a shotgun start at 9am. Registration begins at 8am and there will be coffee and donuts available by Holy Donut, a Portland favorite as well as a food truck at lunchtime. We will have some very creative and fun prizes for the top three winning teams, as well as for the longest drive and closest to the pin shots. We’re starting earlier this year so everyone can make it to the Opening Reception, taking place in the exhibit hall from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at our main event location, Holiday Inn by the Bay, in beautiful Portland, Maine.

Our annual gala will be held at the Portland Club on Monday night beginning at 6pm. Network, relax, and kick back with all of your NEHES friends and peers. Wear your best 80’s attire for your chance to win some totally rad prizes! This year’s theme; Back to the 80’s!!!

I truly hope you can all make it to the conference. This is lining up to be one of the best yet! See you there dudes! Totally!

NEHES News

NEHES recently assembled a small group of Board Members to review the Society’s presence on social media and several recommendations came out of this meeting. You may have noticed NEHES has a new LinkedIn Page! The previously private group page has been closed and this new public company page is now our new home. We also added a Twitter account for those of you who like to tweet. Links for both of these accounts are below, please make sure to follow us! If you attend a NEHES or local chapter event, please tag NEHES on any of your LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter posts.

In addition to the social media review, this group also decided, with the Board’s approval, a transition of the Newsletter Committee to a Marketing/Communications Committee. This committee will oversee the many aspects of marketing that are used to promote NEHES and its mission.  The committee members are: CJ Brown (chair), Katrina Reade, Michael Kilbride, and Taylor Benay.

How has NEHES/ASHE contributed to your career?
The education and networking have been most valuable to me. When I got into healthcare facilities management, I didn't have anyone in the organization to mentor me into what needed to be done, what was important, etc. Solution: ASHE/NEHES/VHES

What is your background healthcare facilities field?
I entered the field of healthcare facilities management as my third career after nuclear plant operations and full-time youth ministry.

Do you have personal tidbit to share?
My house is known in our area as "the Underground House"; it's a semi-bermed home. The original owners designed and built it as an energy-efficient home.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I like building processes/procedures/policies around the regulatory requirements.

What are your plans for future growth?
My current role requires in-depth knowledge of accreditation requirements, so I'll pursue continuing education in Joint Commission requirements, but I'm also considering pursuing a CHSP.

When was the Last Time you Checked HVAC Coils for Mold & Bacteria
Conservation Solutions Corp®
Mechanical cleaning of coils every 6 months is not effective so Healthcare facilities need solutions to control bacteria, mold and viruses including Covid-19 in HVAC systems 24/7. Steril-Aire UVC Systems are a CDC approved technology to improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), reduce Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) and associated liability costs. Steril-Aire UVC Systems are backed by a 2 ½ year peer reviewed ASHRAE study of 6 NE hospitals. Not All UVC Systems are the same.
