Message from President

Dann M. Boyer, CHFM
2022 NEHES President
Director of Facilities Operations
Sturdy Memorial Hospital

December 2022! Another year has come and gone, and with it, my turn as President of NEHES. I cannot express enough gratitude to all of the NEHES membership for giving me the privilege to lead such an incredible organization. Being a third generation NEHES member, it has been an extra special honor thinking about my family’s presence in the industry.

NEHES 2022 represented a return to normalcy, almost. While masking and talks of vaccination is still the norm within the healthcare community, NEHES has returned as strong as ever. Membership has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, with an eye on expanding to levels never before seen. Attendance at the Fall Conference in Portland, Maine was on par with 2019 prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, NEHES was able to provide considerable scholarships for those looking to attend the ASHE Annual Conference, as well as the NEHES Fall Conference. This is something we plan on continuing for years to come. All these are strong signs for the future of NEHES.

With that I turn the reins of NEHES over to Peter Girard who was also the 2020 President of NEHES. His strong leadership through the difficult first year of the pandemic truly set this organization up for the dramatic rebound we have seen. I look forward to seeing how far Pete can advance NEHES going into the future.

As always, thank you for all you do for your organizations, patients, your communities, and one final thank you for the opportunity to serve as the 2022 NEHES President.

How has NEHES/ASHE contributed to your career?
NEHES/ASHE has given me the educational opportunities and resources to enter a career in healthcare.

What is your background in the healthcare facilities field?
I am new to healthcare facilities; however, I spent 14 years at sea as a marine engineer. This gave me the in-depth knowledge required to properly operate, maintain, inspect, and otherwise manage equipment. Following that, I spent a year building and implementing preventative maintenance systems in a university setting. I have also continuously worked as an EMT and paramedic for over 16 years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Finding and creating solutions to create a safe environment for staff and patients.

What are your plans for future growth?
To continue learning in the facilities management and support services groups and become more acquainted with and involved in both NEHES and ASHE.
