Forest Guide Request for Proposals Now Available; Review-Committee Volunteers Sought

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission (NIOC) is pleased to announce release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Forest Guide. The Forest Guide is a core functional element in IETF and NG9-1-1 standards to allow for transfer of calls between disparate ESInets.

The Forest Guide’s functionality is described in IETF 5582 and a Forest Guide for NG9-1-1 is specified in NENA’s i3 Standard for NG9-1-1. The Forest Guide is a LoST server which contains mappings of other LoST servers. In NG9-1-1, the Forest Guide will be queried by an Emergency Call Routing Function (ECRF) which the ECRF receives a query for a location for which it has no mappings, such as a location in a distant state; the Forest Guide will in turn provide the ECRF with routing information to route the call.

More info is available here.

Additionally, NIOC is assembling an RFP review committee to assist in reviewing and scoring RFPs. If you are interested in volunteering, please email rfp@ng911ioc.org. Volunteers from across the public-safety spectrum – including engineers, programmers, vendor representatives, government officials, telecommunicators, and academics – are welcomed.
