This course discusses and demonstrates customer service methods that may take call takers a few extra seconds, but in the end will save minutes by creating an environment of efficiency between the caller, the call taker, and responders. NENA President, Renee Hardwick, is interested in the membership’s opinion on the issue of placing limits on the number of years an individual can serve on the NENA national executive board. Please note that the outcome of any potential national action on this issue will NOT affect the rules established by chapters regarding service on chapter boards. At NENA’s membership meeting held at NENA 2016 in June, Board Attorney, John Kelly, provided the below points that one should consider when forming an opinion on the issue of placing limits on the number of years an individual can serve on the NENA national executive board. They are:
As approved by the membership at the annual meeting in June, NENA's new bylaws have been posted to the NENA website. Substantively, the new bylaws draw mainly from previous iterations. However, they have been significantly revised to improve their organization and clarity, and to remove provisions that are no longer relevant. For example, the new bylaws clarify the process of succession when a vacancy occurs among the officers. The new bylaws also remove provisions related to mail balloting for NENA elections, since no requests for a mail ballot have been received in several years. Further, the new bylaws consolidate provisions relating to duties and powers of the Board of Directors into a single section, to simplify operations. These are just a few of the important changes members can find in the new association bylaws, available here.

Recently, the NG911 Institute worked with the Co-Chairs of the NG911 Caucus to draft a "Dear Colleague" letter that encourages Members of Congress to consider visiting a local 9-1-1 center during the August recess and encouraging them to join the Caucus. Click here to download a copy of the letter and use it as a tool to contact your Representatives or Senators to invite them to tour the PSAP and learn about local and national 9-1-1 issues.
In support of the goal to improve emergency communications for our nation's citizens, the National 911 Program has released a Request for Information (RFI) to gather input about the establishment of a nationally uniform data system to document PSAP call data and data related to the operation of local and state 9-1-1 systems. A nationally uniform 9-1-1 data system, once developed, would provide essential information to assist strategic planning, governance decisions, and improvements to the 9-1-1 system and its operations at all levels of government. These data would also be useful to private sector companies providing services to local and state 9-1-1 agencies. Click here to learn more.Featured Job Openings
