The NENA Information Document for GIS Data Stewardship for Next Generation 9-1-1 will assist GIS and PSAP staff in understanding and adopting best practices related to managing specific GIS data layers in support of Next Generation 9‑1‑1 (NG9‑1‑1) deployments. GIS data is at the heart of NG9‑1‑1 systems. Civic addresses associated with fixed caller locations are validated against GIS data to ensure that they can be mapped. When an emergency call is made, it is routed using the caller’s location along with the GIS boundaries of responder agencies to determine the correct responder. Volunteers Wanted
NENA seeks volunteers for a new working group to update the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model templates (NENA-REF-006) to align with the changes made in version 2 of the recently published NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model (NENA-STA-006.2) and test loading data into the new templates. There are two versions of the templates to be updated:
The co-chairs have already incorporated the changes between NENA-STA-006.1-2018 and NENA-STA-006.2-2022 that are identified in the "Reason for Issue/Reissue" section in v2 of NENA-STA-006 into the templates. However, a layer-by-layer and field-by-field review is required to identify other changes that may not be explicitly documented within the "Reason for Issue/Reissue" section. Other WG activities and discussions will include FGDB & PostgreSQL version target, a review of existing instructional documentation for FGDB and PostgreSQL deployment, and incorporation of additional NENA registry entries. WG members will be required to help test the updated templates by loading data into the templates and reporting on issues found. Volunteers for this work group should have a solid understanding of the NENA Standard for NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model (NENA-STA-006.2-2022) and be detail-orientated. Participants should have access to development GIS databases (Esri File or enterprise Geodatabase or PostgreSQL/PostGIS) that can be used to test the template(s). Familiarity with using Git for version control is desired, but not required. Participants must have experience with at least one the following:
When signing up for the WG, please document which of these databases you have experience with and whether or not you have experience using Git for version control in the "Knowledge, Skills, Abilities You Offer" section of the form. Weekly 60-minute calls will be held on Wednesdays, 12-1PM Eastern, beginning November 16. Click here to join the Working Group. Members of the 9-1-1 community are invited to submit nominations to fill a currently-vacant seat on the NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission (Commission), also known as the NIOC. This body provides independent oversight of the PSAP Credentialing Agency (PCA) and the Forest Guide, two functional elements required to be operated centrally for NG9-1-1 to work according to prevailing standards. These requirements come from specifications developed under NENA’s standards NENA Development Group (NDG) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The Commission seeks a member representing elected officials that are not directly part of a public safety agency, that has oversight of 9-1-1 services. For example, a county commissioner or member of a state legislature would be eligible for this seat. Click here to learn more and apply by November 8. The National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) is coordinating a project to develop guidelines for building collaboration between the four disciplines of EMS, 9-1-1, emergency management, and public health. NENA is supporting and participating in this project as a member of the Technical Expert Panel. As part of the project, NASEMSO is collecting the best practices and ideas for collaboration from across each state and from the representatives of the four disciplines. Click here to provide your expertise for the project. The scan NASEMSO is doing is formed around 13 separate domains that are common throughout all states and all four of the disciplines. All are welcomed to take the time to go through the scan and provide links to materials or documents that you feel should be considered in developing the guidelines. NENA seeks volunteers for a working group to revisit work completed on a standards document developed to assist PSAP managers with the development of agency-specific Daily Personnel Operations policies and procedures. This document will be developed in compliance with ANSI Essential Requirements processes. This document includes standards and guidelines for: Daily PSAP operations, schedules, developing PSAP personnel guidelines. Volunteers for this work group should have a variety of expertise with PSAP management. Participants with the following experience and/or skills are especially needed: PSAP management, PSAP operations, scheduling, and policy and procedure development. When signing up for the WG, please document which of these skills you possess in the "Knowledge, Skills, Abilities You Offer" section of the form. WG members will be required to participate in at least one of the subgroups that will be formed to focus on a specific scope item. Skillsets will be taken into consideration when subgroups are formed, and members may need to provide additional information regarding their related experience when they submit their request to join this working group. 60-minute calls will be held the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 2PM Eastern beginning on November 17. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is soliciting applications for appointment to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC). NEMSAC is an excellent opportunity to highlight and discuss issues in 9-1-1 to Federal entities that support 9-1-1 and EMS agencies. Complete applications must be received on or before November 10, 2022, at 5PM Eastern. Click here to learn more and apply.
