Document Announcements
NENA's GIS Data Model Template Working Group is pleased to announce the availability of its DRAFT NG9-1-1 GIS Data Templates for public review and consideration. The GIS Data Templates are a direct interpretation of version 2 of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model. The primary purpose of the GIS Data Templates is a common data structure for data exchange between agencies or their vendors. It is the goal to provide a GIS Data Template for entities to use in order to ensure that the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model is not interpreted in different ways. While the scripts and tools provided may be used by GIS Data Providers as a template for the management of their own NG9-1-1 data, it is expected that each GIS Data Provider will adapt the scripts and extend the schema to meet their specific organization's needs and requirements. Before the GIS Template Working Group publishes its final deliverables, it is interested in hearing from any agency willing to extract, transform, or load (ETL) their GIS data into one of these templates. The working group is particularly interested in hearing about any complications, challenges, limitations, or other problems associated with the ETL process. There are two data structures provided as part of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model templates package: an open source version based on a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database and a version based on the Esri File GeoDatabase. The templates are available through NENA's GitHub Repository. Click here to download the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Templates Reference Document. Issues should be reported directly within GitHub through the Issues tab. Alternatively, issues may be submitted as comments by going here and then selecting "Add a Comment" from the "Document Actions" icon drop down options. Please complete all requested data and click "Save," or, if submitting multiple comments, click "Save and Add Another." All comments are due by March 14, 2023. You may contact the GIS Data Templates WG Co-Chairs, Jason Horning and Tom Neer, with any questions or issues accessing the templates and scripts within GitHub.

The NENA Institute Board (NIB) – the body that oversees the Emergency Number Professional (ENP) Certification Program – seeks nominees to fill two vacancies on the board. One seat is to serve as North Central Region delegate, while the other is to serve as an At-Large delegate. Regional and At-Large delegates are expected to attend the NENA Annual Conference, a two-day NIB meeting each year (recently held in conjunction with NENA’s SBP Conference), and monthly conference calls. Applicants must have a firm knowledge of 9-1-1 technology, management, and operations, with a good grasp of how 9-1-1 will change in the future. To be considered for the position, you must also be a current ENP and a NENA member.
