Fire service leaders from across the state of New York converged on Albany for the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs' Government Affairs Day, held on May 15, 2012.
Before heading out to meet with their local representatives, NYSAFC President Skip Sylvester welcomed over 50 chiefs and officers from NYSAFC, as well as leaders from the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York (AFDSNY) and the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY).
NYSAFC's 2012 Legislative Agenda and the joint "Issues of United Concern" of New York's emergency services organizations were thoroughly reviewed and discussed. Click here for updated versions of the NYSAFC 2012 Legislative Agenda and the "Issues of United Concern."
The morning session concluded with State Fire Administrator Bryant Stevens of the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, who discussed program bills introduced by the agency, and Deputy Comptroller Steven Hancox, Office of the New York State Comptroller, Local Government and School Accountability, who addressed interaction between the State Comptroller's Office and local government.
A special thanks goes out to the leaders and members of NYSAFC's Government Affairs Committee for putting this year's program together. It was a very informative and productive day for the New York state fire service and it would not have been possible without those who came out to support our legislative initiatives.
