By EMS Coordinator Mike McEvoy, Saratoga County
NYSAFC Director – EMS

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) will launch a series of one-day executive level training workshops entitled, "Responding to Alzheimer’s Disease: Techniques for Law Enforcement and First Responders." The first two workshops will be held in California (Irvine, June 4) and Texas (Plano, June 28).

These sessions resulted from several years of collaborative work between the IACP and dozens of community organizations including the IAFC EMS Section to develop and refine current Alzheimer’s and dementia educational material, responder training, and model search and rescue policies for persons with Alzheimer’s. Open to executive level law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, this program is the most current Alzheimer’s and dementia training available. Attendees will better understand Alzheimer’s disease, learn to distinguish Alzheimer’s from other conditions, learn how to communicate with and interview persons with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, and explore model policies for search and rescue of missing persons with Alzheimer’s. Full and partial scholarships are available; registration is limited.
