NIOSH recently released two documents on recommended health monitoring and surveillance for emergency responders. Part of the Emergency Responder Health Monitoring and Surveillance (ERHMS) system, the framework outlined in these publications details methods for identifying exposures early in a response in order to prevent or mitigate effects on the health and safety of rescuers.
