NYSAFC Combined Board and Committee Meeting Held in Schodack

During the opening session, Conference Committee Vice Chairman Rick Akey (at right) presented President Rich Messina with a special plaque that will be displayed at the NYSAFC office. The plaque honors Rich and his late father, Past President Andy Messina, commemorating the first time in the history of the association that a father and son have served as president. It also features Andy's "special" gavel, which was presented by Rich's family during this year's Installation Ceremony.

NYSAFC held a combined board of directors and committee meeting over the weekend of October 20-21 in Schodack, N.Y.

Board and committee members from across the state met together and with association staff to plan for upcoming events, programs, and projects.

Among the items discussed were: finalization of updates to the NYSAFC Fire Chief’s Reference Guide, the 40th anniversary of the Public Fire Safety Educators’ Conference (to be held May 3-5, 2013, at the New York State Academy of Fire Science), the association’s 2013 legislative agenda, future fire education and training programs, and the FIRE 2013 Expo & NYSAFC 107th Annual Conference (to be held June 12-15, 2013, at the Turning Stone Resort).

"It was a very productive weekend, with many new goals established by our committees," said NYSAFC President Rich Messina. "We thank everyone for taking the time out of their busy schedules to travel and participate."
