A study published in the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Annals of Emergency Medicine suggests that patients who frequently use EMS and emergency departments are actually sick. When compared to less frequently seen patients, frequent users appear to have significant medical problems that require emergency care. Often, the care they require is not accessible elsewhere.
