A recent SARS-like virus is being tracked in the Middle East. First seen in Saudi Arabia, the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes significant respiratory illness in patients. Half of those infected have died. The virus has spread to seven other countries and is frequently reported by the news media. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control have established a website with current information on MERS here.
