Volunteer Departments Required to Provide Health Insurance

Current language in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires volunteer fire and EMS departments to provide health insurance to any members who volunteer more than 30 hours per week. The legislation is available here.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) has requested a formal opinion on the requirement from the Internal Revenue Service. Additional info can be found on a newly created IAFC web page.
